After graduating from high school, I began my career in shop drawing production and later joined COLABO. As I gained more experience, I became increasingly interested in structural design, which eventually led me to leave COLABO to pursue it more seriously.
In structural design, I learned to evaluate whether a building works based on the accuracy of numbers—dimensions, member thicknesses and other technical requirements. At the same time, I began to feel frustrated, as decisions were often made without fully considering how the building would actually be built on-site or the level of effort required for fabrication, making me want to work closer to the actual construction process. Around that time, I was contacted by COLABO’s founder, Mr. Koshimae, and asked if I would consider working together again. That conversation made me reflect on what I was really looking for, and I decided to return.
After rejoining, what stood out to me most was how much broader each person’s role had become. At COLABO, everyone works as a project coordinator, staying involved throughout the entire project. With that comes greater responsibility, but also more opportunities to learn. Being involved from multiple angles has allowed me to build experience step by step, shaping my career with each project.

At COLABO, my role is to turn complex information into clear instructions that keep projects moving smoothly. Meetings with general contractors and designers often involve abstract discussions, and it’s my job to translate those ideas into concrete instruction drawings that let the fabrication team act confidently and efficiently. I don’t just hand over drawings—I anticipate potential on-site issues, propose solutions, and provide clear explanations so everyone knows exactly what to do.
Most of my work involves supporting senior team members as a sub-coordinator, but it’s especially rewarding when I hear that things went smoothly on site or when clients express their appreciation—moments that remind me my work helps bring people together and keep the project moving forward.
My awareness of the impact of my work grew even stronger after hands-on training in our in-house lab, LABO. By assembling components myself, I realized how even a small mistake in a drawing could cause major delays or extra work. Since then, I approach every task with a strong sense of responsibility, knowing that the work I do directly affects the people handling the next step—and ultimately, the success of the entire project.

One of the things I find most appealing about COLABO is the work-life balance. In my previous job, working on weekends wasn’t unusual, but at COLABO, weekends and holidays are completely off, and by 7 p.m., the office is usually empty, with very little overtime. Having that space and time allows me to step back and look at the project as a whole, making it easier to spot unnecessary steps and work more efficiently. On my days off, I enjoy hobbies like nail art and making stamps, which help me recharge both physically and mentally. This work is especially rewarding for people who can visualize drawings from different angles, much like building a model, or for those who are naturally curious and enjoy figuring out how things work.
